2013 Alumni Awards Luncheon
The 2013 Alumni Award Luncheon occured on Friday, September 20 in conjunction with Homecoming Weekend. As SHU celebrated its 50th Anniversary, it was more important than ever to recognize alumni who have made significant contributions to our University, their communities, and their professions. Kevin Nealon '75, a former cast member of Saturday Night Live and celebrated film actor, was awarded the Alumni Achievement Award for his outstanding career. John R. Quinn '70 was awarded the Pioneer Award for his work as the president and CEO of VNA Health Systems Inc. The Alumni Association Faculty/Staff Award was presented to Dr. Susan DeNisco, chair of the SHU School of Nursing. The Academic College Alumni Leadership Awards were received by Craig Baker '98, '05 MAT (Isabelle Farrington College of Education), Michael A. Pavia '70 (College of Arts and Sciences), Keith A. Hovan '84, '93 MSN (College of Health Professions), Rosanne Badowski '79 (John F. Welch College of Business), and Sylvia M. Barchue RN, MS '05 (University College).
2012 Alumni Awards Luncheon
The 2012 Alumni Awards Luncheon took place on Friday, September 28. Alumni Association awards and Academic Colleges Alumni Leadership awards were given to recipients who embodied the Sacred Heart University mission by making outstanding contributions to their communities and professions. Awardees included Roberto Santos '02 (Alumni Association Pioneer Award) and Debra Greenwood '76 (Alumni Achievement Award). The Academic Colleges awards were received by Heather C. Conover '74 (College of Arts & Sciences Alumni Leadership Award), Thomas R. Denninger '05, '08 DPT (College of Health Professions Alumni Leadership Award), Carlo Leone '96, '98 MBA (University College Alumni Leadership Award), Raymond J. Zukowski '82 (John F. Welch College of Business Alumni Leadership Award), and Mary L. Pulido, Ph.D. '81, '86 MAT (Isabelle Farrington College of Education Alumni Leadership Award).
2011 Alumni Awards Breakfast
The 2011 Alumni Awards Breakfast took place on Sunday, September 25. Awards were given to alumni who have made exceptional contributions to their communities, our University community as well as within their profession. This year marked two new awards: Alumni Faculty/Staff award as well as an Outstanding Alumni Council Member Award. Awardees included Carole Claps '01 and Lt. Michael Walsh '95 (University College Alumni Leadership Award); Michael Dineen '93 MBA (John F. Welch College of Business Alumni Leadership Award); Donna Civardi '09, '10 MSN and Edward Mahoney '00, '02 MSPT (College of Health Professions Alumni Leadership Award); Shaun Mitchell '08, '09 MAT (Pioneer Award); Angelina Staltaro '75 (Volunteer of the Year Award); Judy Ann Stevens '80 (Alumni Achievement Award); Cheryl Janus '01, '03 MAT (Outstanding Alumni Council Member Award); Gary Rose Ph.D. (Alumni Faculty/Staff Award).
2010 Alumni Awards Brunch
The 2010 Alumni Awards Brunch took place on Saturday October 2. Awards were given to alumni who have made exceptional contributions to the fulfillment of the mission of Sacred Heart University. They are also recognized for their distinction within a profession and outstanding service to the University. Awardees included Sean Dowling CPF, and Gail Solis '86, '91 MBA (The University College Alumni Excellence Award); Seth Tutlis '00, and Susan K, Durrell '04 MBA (The John F. Welch College of Business' Alumni Excellence Award); Denise S. Walsh '93 PH.DC, RN and Beth Gillin '98 MAT (The College of Education and Health Professions Alumni Leadership Award). Alumni were also recognized for their significant impact through service within the community and/or University, Arthur Gerckens '98 (Pioneer Award); Barbara Susi '75 (Volunteer of the Year Award). An award was also given to an alumni who made a significant positive impact in their field or profession and community, Swetha Desai '07 (The Alumni Achievement Award).
2009 Alumni Awards Brunch
The Alumni Awards Brunch was held in November of 2009. The University recognized alumni who have given service to the University, distinction within a profession and/or contribution to fulfillment of the mission of the college. Awardees included Mary Jane Paris '03 (University College Award), Robert Antonellis '98, James Viadeo, '89, '09 (The College of Arts and Sciences Excellence Award), Nancy Juliano, MAT '92, Jillian L. Battaglia, MSOT '06 (The College of Education and Health Professions Alumni Leadership Award). Alumni were also recongized for making an outstanding impact through service in their community and/or service within the University, Jennifer Gambardella '02, Curtis Lewsey '05 (The Pioneer Award), Kathryn Zizzi '06 (Volunteer of the Year Award). An award was also given in recognition to an individual who made a positive impact in their field or profession, Philip Palmieri '96 (Alumni Achievement Award). Congratulations to all of the 2009 Alumni Award winners.
2008 Alumni Awards Brunch
The 2008 Alumni Award Brunch was held during Homecoming on Saturday, October 4. Four distinguished alumni, as well as one community partner were recgonized. Christopher Ray '96 MAT and Meredith Ann Heyde '01 MSN were both recognized by the College of Education and Health Professions with the Alumni Leadership Award. This year's Pionner Award was given to Andres Ayala, Jr '91, '03 MAT for his tireless work as a teacher, legislature and community leader in Bridgetport, CT. Chief John Buturla '82 was awarded the Alumni Achievement Award for his outstanding career in criminal justice.
2007 Alumni Awards Brunch
The Alumni Awards Brunch, attended by more than 90 people in University Commons, recognized graduates who have made a difference in their industries and communities and have had a positive impact on individual lives, as well as on their alma mater. Awardees included Richard P. Cercone ’01 and Linda B. Melodia ’04 (College of Education and Health Professions Alumni Leadership Award); Anthony Maida, Dr. Michael Redler and Katherine Yacavone (Community Partner Award); Michael Del Re, Jr. ’68 (University College Alumni Leadership Award); John Benvenuto ’78, Donald J. Kinahan ’85, Floyd Neil ’98 and Olia Yelner ’05 (Pioneer Award); Chad Betz ’90 (Volunteer of the Year Award); and Alice Ferreira ’91 (Alumni Achievement Award).
